Maintenance/Janitorial Worker

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing floors and surfaces
• Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, including replenishing paper products, soaps, and air fresheners
• Wash windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces
• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling, maintaining proper waste management
• Conduct minor maintenance and repairs, such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, and fixing minor plumbing or electrical issues
• Perform seasonal or periodic tasks, including waxing floors, trimming shrubs, snow removal, and inspecting utilities like smoke detectors and HVAC systems
• Ensure building security by locking and unlocking doors and monitoring facility access
• Maintain janitorial supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage and inventory management
• Follow safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment

Skills

• Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, janitorial equipment, and minor maintenance procedures
• Physical stamina to lift supplies, move equipment, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety
• Time management and ability to work independently or under minimal supervision
• High school diploma or equivalent is often preferred
• Familiarity with safety regulations and proper handling of cleaning chemicals

Work Environment

• Typically operates in schools, offices, hospitals, libraries, or other public and private facilities
• May require working outside normal business hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and physical activity is common

Additional Considerations

• Position may involve working with contract cleaning services or coordinating with other maintenance staff
• Salary and benefits vary based on experience
• Position is essential for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for employees, clients, and visitors, combining routine cleaning with basic maintenance and facility upkeep
• Position generally works Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week. A flexible schedule is required, including occasional evening or weekend hours to perform job duties
• Reliable transportation required
• Ability to travel frequently within service areas
