WFC is seeking energetic Teacher Assistants to join its fun and interactive Before & After School Program. Interested candidate should enjoy working with young children - grades K-5. Program sites are located at Nathan Hale, Casimir Pulaski, and Hanover elementary schools.

  • Program operates during the school year calendar (Aug 2020 - June 2021)
  • Monday through Friday
  • Program hours of operation: 6:30am-8:30am AND 2:30pm-6pm
  • Various work opportunities available: AM and/or PM; 15-25 hrs/wk

Staff work with the program managers in providing homework help and engaging children in the program's fun, interactive S.T.A.R. (science, technology, art and recreation) enrichment and literacy curriculum activities.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; some college courses in education preferred.
  • Experience working with school aged children.
  • Positive outlook required.
  • Bilingual a plus.

WFC is seeking a Head Teacher to oversee the daily operations of its S.T.A.R. (Science, Technology, Arts & Recreation) Before & After School Program at Hanover Elementary School for the calendar year 2020-2021.

The S.T.A.R. Before & After School Program exposes children to many forms of art and fields of science, requiring them not only to use their imagination, but also rely upon their growing knowledge of math and technology. Literacy is also promoted through a series of reading and writing enrichment activities. Health and Wellness lessons are also incorporated into our curriculum throughout the school year. Students participate in team building games and learn how to make healthy life choices.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree preferred. Or high school diploma + 12 ECE credits (REQUIRED) and 3 years of experience in education.
  • Must have or be eligible for Connecticut Head Teacher Certificate (school age).
  • At least 1 years of formal work experience with young children in a school setting.
  • Supervisory experience preferred; positive outlook required.
  • Must acquire and maintain First Aid and CPR certification

Women and Families Center RISE Program is an after school program that engages high school youth (grades 9-12) in college & career exploration and community service through project-based activities.

Summary:

  • Responsible for the after school site management, youth recruiting as well as developing and facilitating enrichment/recreational activities.

This is a part time school year position, 20 hrs/wk, Tuesday - Thursday: 1:30pm - 5:30pm (program site hours) and an additional 4 hours planning and professional development. Position includes some paid time off benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Human Service or related field preferred
  • Three years of experience working with at-risk youth preferred; teaching experience preferred
  • Outreach and/or youth counseling experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and interact positively with youth
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Must acquire and maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Bilingual a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position requires typical work operations and responsibilities such as but not limited to:

  • Recruit youth (high school) and maintain enrollment
  • Complete initial and ongoing assessments of youth participants
  • Maintain accurate youth records
  • Establish goals for each youth; complete annual evaluations for youth
  • Plan lessons and activities, including group activities, guest speakers and field trips
  • Assist youth with homework or other school day related projects
  • Provide crisis intervention, short-term supportive counseling and case management for program youth as needed
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in program development and operation
  • Facilitate and assist with coordination of special events and other youth-oriented activities
  • Report all accidents, incidents and information vital to the program to the Program Coordinator
  • Maintain CACFP meal count forms and follow nutritional guidelines
  • Develop and maintain relationships with youth parents
