What is Sexual Assault?
Sexual Violence is any unwanted, non-consensual sexual act. It occurs against a person’s will through force, the threat of force, coercion, or manipulation. Sexual violence is a crime of power and control; it is not motivated by passion. Sexual assault is motivated by a desire to dominate and humiliate the victim in the most intimate way possible.
Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence is a broad term that includes:
- Rape
- Date rape
- Incest
- Child sexual abuse
- Attempted rape
- Forced oral sex
